Friday is the New Saturday

Well I WISH Fridays were the new Saturday, how about that? I got this video sent to me in an email a looooooong time ago, but my coworker and I loved it so much that we still call every Friday our "I Don't Care Friday". This video cracks me up every time I watch it, and I think it really applies to people who work in an office setting. I also have a couple of coworkers that this reminds me of - especially when they talk about taking three hour lunches - haha! I'm actually a little too busy to completely ignore my stack of paperwork all day on Friday, but when something really gets under my skin on Fridays I can usually take a deep breath and tell myself that it's "I Don't Care Friday". And you have to say it in a little sing-songy voice to really get the point. Enjoy!

Golden Globes Best Dressed

I love the movie awards season because not only do I get to watch great movies for months but also because I love watching the stars walk the red carpet. The Golden Globes is a unique awards show because it combines movies and television - two of my most favorite favs - and the stars usually attend and act happy to be there!  The fact that a little known or understood entity, The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, picks the awards does not really affect me at all except that I mostly copy all of their winners when I fill out my pretend Oscar ballot a few weeks later.

Below are a few of my favorite dresses of the night in no particular oder. And like most "Best Dressed" websites or reviewers I don't pick actresses because I like them or the movie/tv show they are in, I really just like the dresses. So no Angelina or Sandra on my list tonight. And one more thing, I don't waste my time talking about the guys, because, well that's ridiculous. A tux is a tux. Sorry guys.

Mila Kunis from Black Swan
The color looks fantastic on her with her dark features and the one-shoulder strap was definitely a trend tonight.

 Amy Adams from The Fighter
I really like the color and overall awesome-ness of this dress. It's probably my favorite.

 Lea Michele from Glee
Another one-shoulder dress! The ruffles and side train really make the dress a winner.

Julie Bowen from Modern Family
I'm not crazy about the color, but I love the dress and I thought it looked lovely on her.

Catherine Zeta Jones
I actually did not see her all night, but found her on the internet later. I love the heavy draping on the dress and I imagine it looks even better in person.

Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory
The color is just okay for me here as well, but I thought the dress looked great on her.  Although you can't see it from this shot her hair, which is normally shoulder length, was in a loose, long ponytail and it looked oddly great with an evening gown.

Jennifer Love Hewitt from The Client List
This is more of an honorable mention because I think the dress looks sort of like a wedding dress constructed into a ball gown. I also sort of wonder how far the waiters could see down the top of her gown. On the flip side, I LOVED her hair and makeup and I noticed that throughout the night the camera stopped on her really for no reason other than because she just looked so gorgeous!

This is all just a taste of what's to come at The Oscars. I will need to finish watching as many of the nominated films as I can, and tonight really got me interested in a few movies that I didn't initially think I would want to see (or had ever heard of). Next on my list are The Fighter and The King's Speech.

Snow Days and Slow Days

This week we were hit with a rather large snow/ice storm and for two days we really couldn't go anywhere. I even had a doctor's appointment during this time and their office was closed - for two days! Crazy! After tomorrow Brad's school will have been closed all week which is highly unusual.  I had to work, unfortunately, which I guess is one of the small downsides of working remotely from your house - no sick days and no snow days. Boo!

On Day 1 of the snow storm we did not even attempt to walk outside, but on Day 2 this is what our driveway looked like - you can't see it! The slush is the neighborhood road.

A side view of our front yard

And finally Brad was so stir crazy that he shoveled part of the driveway and we made a break for it. We only drove a mile or two and we had to go about 15 miles per hour the entire time. Spartanburg was a ghost town and even Targent was closed! I thought that was funny.

I don't know what it is about the snow, but even I, Queen Homebody, start to feel a little caged in. Maybe it's just the thoughts that we can't go outside that drive us crazy. The caged-in feeling has only exacerbated my patience because during this snowy week time has almost stood still for me. I'm waiting on some news from my doctor and while I'm waiting I feel like the days are dragging by and each one is longer than the last. Thankfully, I have my work to keep me busy and I usually have something to do around the house or I cook a little here and there. Today I randomly made biscuits. I just felt like eating one and so I did. But overall I feel like this test of my patience is wearing me down. I just want the days to come and go so I can get some answers, but yet I feel like I am stuck in a weird time zone where nothing ever changes. I know eventually I will get an answer, and there's a good chance I won't like the answer. But let's just say it won't be the first time I've gotten that news. So good or bad, I just want to know.  So listen up Mother Time - pick up the pace!

Ten Minutes of Turbulence

Yesterday and today have not been great days for me. I've probably had worse, but I don't want to ever repeat these days again. With that said, I want to remind myself of a few things that make me happy at this moment because I am determined to not let misery get the best of me.

1. I'm super thankful that I am a child of God and I can always put my total faith and confidence in Him.

2. I'm so glad I'm married to the man I am and not anyone else. He is my best friend!

3. I have plenty of friends and family that I could call whenever I want.

4. I know others who are experiencing the same emotions that I am and it makes me feel less crazy.

5. I am glad that this Christmas my dog did not die. Really.

6. I am glad that I have a job I can tolerate on the bad days and love on the good days.

7. I am glad that I, and most everyone I know, have plenty of food, clothes, a home and general good health.

8. I am extra glad that a lot of television shows I love are starting a new season this week and that I can also go watch the Oscar-nominated movies soon.

9. I am glad that I don't have to feel guilty about drinking so much sweat tea and eating Fish Filets from McDonalds.

Whenever I have an unusally bad day there is one special thing that I do. I like to watch a serman of Joel Osteen's that I have saved on my DVR. I have watched it probably close to ten time since early October. I guess only having ten terrible days in three months isn't so bad. Everytime I watch it I hear something new and I always feel like Joel is talking directly to me.

In the sermon, Joel makes a comparison of unexpected difficulties to being on a plane with turbulence. He says that in life we'll go through periods of unexpected difficulties that make us feel defeated and stressed out. But just like on an airplane, the turbulence will disappear. God would never let us go through something unless it was part of our divine plan, and nothing can happen to us without God's permission. In fact, if a certain problem could keep us from our destiny then God would not have allowed it to happen to us. When something bad happens instead of giving up and becoming upset or frustrated we must always trust that He is in control. I'm definitely in those ten minutes of turbulence right now, so obviously it makes me feel better to expect that God will step in and bring me unexpected blessings to replace these difficulties. I not only hope it for me, but for anyone who is going through something difficult today. Life is not easy, but trusting our worries with God makes it a lot better.

I know I've made you want to listen to the sermon now so here is the video. It's about twenty-five minutes long.

Hello!

Well I am excited to say that my blog is now set and is finally up and running! I will probably never change it because it took me way too long to figure out. It will be July and I will still have snowflakes and a year old picture as my header. Oh well! Right now I am going to work on emptying my DVR and forget about the two hours of my life I just lost battling it out with blogger. At least I won. I think...
